Foster Care Fortnight 2015

From Monday 1st to Sunday 14th, June Sunbeam Fostering are proud to support the biggest foster care campaign of 2015, Foster Care Fortnight, hosted by The Fostering Network.

There are children and families of all backgrounds and circumstances who need support from foster carers. This could be due to a parent falling ill, domestic issues, or a child with a disability. The purpose of Foster Care Fortnight is to help raise awareness and increase the number of foster carer’s profiles across the UK to connect, and make a difference to a young person’s life.

Who can foster?

Being a foster carer isn’t easy. Carers may face some challenges but with the right skills and commitment, this experience could be rewarding.

Foster carers are needed from all backgrounds to make sure every child is placed in the right home and family. You could be married, single, or have children of your own, as long as you can provide a secure and stable home and have the time to care for a child; this opportunity could be for you.

Asma was approved as a foster carer at Sunbeam in 2007. Since her approval, Asma has cared for a number of young people and has been awarded “Carer of the Year”.

“Fostering is a rewarding experience as it allows you to actually make a difference for a child/young person. I feel happy being able to make such a difference whether it is for one day or several years. It is hard work and although it can be very challenging at times, ultimately foster carers are blessed with an immense sense of achievement.”

The Fostering Network estimates that fostering services across the UK need to recruit at least a further 8,370 foster families during 2015. If you think you could be part of that growing number, please come and join the Sunbeam fostering sister company, Pride services for a coffee morning on Saturday 13th June at the Hilton Hotel in Stopsley – LU2 8DD – from 9.30am until 12.00pm. This campaign highlights the need for current and new foster carers to come forward and get the chance to network, learn and share experiences about fostering a child.
