HOW DO I BECOME AN ENHANCED CARER?

Wondering how you can become an Enhanced foster carer?
Stage 1 - Initial enquiry
You can get in touch with us by completing an online form, give us a call or request a callback request here.
We will talk you through the process and send you an information pack
Step 2 - Arranging an initial home visit
We will visit you at your home or video chat to get to know you better and provide you with the chance to ask any questions you may have about the process.
Step 3 - Complete an application form
You will be asked to complete an online application form (you can also request a hard copy of the application form to complete).
Stage 4 -Starting checks and the assessment
To begin your fostering journey, we will be carrying out some checks (DBS, medical, LA, employer and references etc.).You and your assessing social worker will work together to complete a Form F assessment. You have made the phenomenal decision to care for the most vulnerable children who have experienced immense trauma and it is now our job to do everything in our power to support you.
Step 5 – Skills to Foster Training
When you apply to join the Sunbeam team you will have access to essential training courses.
All our prospective foster carers are required to attend our two-day Skills to foster training course. This course will give you a greater understanding of the role and equip you with essential foster carer skills.
Step 6 – Going to Panel
At this stage on completion of the assessment, final checks are carried out by an independent panel before your recommendation is made to become a foster carer.
Step 7 – Approval (You did it!)
The Agency decision-maker will make the final decision regarding your approval. Once approved you will then be a registered Enhanced carer with Sunbeam Fostering.
Your now approved and ready to start you Enhanced fostering career. The support never ends, 24/7, 365 days a year. We are here for you, that’s our promise to you.
