Activities to do this half term with your children and young people
Although restrictions are beginning to lift across England, it can still be a challenge to think of some activities for your family to enjoy. We have come up with a range of activities that the whole family can join in with over the half term break.
Wildlife Watch: Why not visit your local park or sit out in the garden and see all the different birds, insects, and bugs that you can spot. There are plenty of free resource packs out there that you can download for your children and young people so they can write down all the animals they find.
At home cinema day: Although the weather is beginning to change, in the evenings it stays lighter for longer and the sun is shining, we can still expect to see some of them grey, cold, and rainy days. So why noy have an at home cinema day? Pick out the family favourites or find a film on Netflix or Disney+ and sit down with some popcorn and blankets for a family movie day.
Sports day in the garden: Set up a mini sports day in the garden with running races, long and short jump games and sack races! This is something that the whole family can get involved in!
Paint rocks for the garden or your community: During the covid-19 pandemic many communities have joined together to make their local area glow with positivity. Many people have been painting rocks and leaving rainbows in their windows to show their love and support during these difficult times.
Go on a treasure hunt: Check out some GPS based treasure hunts at Geocaching. All you have to do is register, pop in the location you would like to start the treasure hunt and start searching and see what adventures you can find!
Zoom catch ups: Check up on family and friends via a virtual catch up on Zoom! Zoom is free and easy to join, creating the perfect opportunity for all your family and friends to get together virtually. You could even set up a quiz night!
Get gardening: Why not find a new passion for gardening and start planting some new flowers, fruit and veg for the upcoming spring and summer months.
Paint by numbers: There are plenty of free downloadable paint by numbers resources online for your children and young people to paint. This is a fun activity that the whole family can join in with, just pull out the arts and crafts box and start getting creative.
Get baking: Why not teach your children some baking or cooking skills and together make some fantastic goodies or a meal for you all to enjoy.
Puppet show: Fancy creating some puppets and letting your children put on a puppet show for you, this will provide hours of fun for the whole family!
