We Transferred to Sunbeam: My Journey as a Foster Carer
Why I’m So Glad We Transferred to Sunbeam: My Journey as a Foster Carer
When we first decided to become foster carers, we knew we wanted to make a real difference in a child’s life. We wanted to provide a safe, loving and stable home to children who needed it. Our fostering journey started with another agency. While we gained valuable experience there, over time we realised that we were looking for something different an agency where we felt more supported, listened to and valued as foster carers.
Two years ago, we made the decision to transfer to Sunbeam. Looking back now, it is a decision we are genuinely very happy we made. Finding the right agency.
As foster carers, we know that fostering can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also come with challenges. Having the right support around you makes a huge difference.
When we joined Sunbeam, we immediately felt that our experience and opinions mattered. We were not simply seen as foster carers; we felt like part of a team working towards the same goal giving children the best possible care and helping them thrive.
Over the last two years, we have built a strong relationship with our supervising social worker and the wider Sunbeam team. Whenever we have needed advice, guidance or simply someone to talk to, we have felt supported.
Our experience with Sunbeam has given us confidence in our role as foster carers. The training has helped us continue learning and developing, while the ongoing support has helped us navigate the different situations that come with fostering. What we value most is knowing that we don’t have to face challenges alone. There is always someone we can reach out to, someone willing to listen and someone who understands that fostering is a journey.
If you are already fostering with another agency and are wondering whether transferring is the right decision, our advice would be don’t be afraid to explore your options.
Transferring to a new agency might feel like a big step, but for us, it was the beginning of a much happier chapter in our fostering journey.
And if you are thinking about becoming a foster carer for the first time, take the time to find an agency that feels right for you one that will support you, listen to you and stand beside you.
For us, that agency has been Sunbeam. Two years on, we are still very happy with our decision and we would encourage anyone considering fostering or transferring to Sunbeam to take that first step. Because when you have the right support around you, you can focus on what matters most, giving a child a warm and nurturing home.
