Our annual Fun Day  is an opportunity for Foster Carers, Looked after children and Birth children to have a fun filled day with activities for all. This year we returned to St Benedict’s school in Ealing on 9th August 2017. We were unlucky with the weather but we still had a good amount of people turn up on the day and made it a successful day regardless of the rain. Sunbeam’s Funday for the South Central region was held at the Unique Outdoors situated in Reading, The event was tailored specifically for Foster Carers, children and the young people in our care. They all enjoyed a range of activities including archery, laser combat and ball games. Sunbeam’s Registered Manager, Team Leader and Supervising Social Workers were part of the event, this provided an opportunity for Foster Carers, children and our young people to spend time with Sunbeams senior managers. From 2016-2017 figures from the NHS show that 5,391 cases of FGM were recorded. There has been a drop from the previous year’s figures where from 2015-2016 there were 6,080 newly reported cases. This is still a shocking 11,471 cases within the last two years. FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) is a procedure where the female genitals are deliberately cut, injured or changed when there is no medical reason for doing so. Some of our looked after children and carer’s got together last week for a support group and a chance to spend time socialising and playing. Bringing the children and carers together is an important aspect in our agency as it is a great chance for all the children to meet each other and as one of the children said, “not judge each other”. There were a few new faces at our support group such as newly placed children, approved carers and a supervising social worker. Therefore, it was a great opportunity for everyone to meet each other and have fun. …
