World Book Day

TODAY IS WORLD BOOK DAY

World book day is today and it is a great opportunity for children to read some of their much-loved books, talk about their favourite authors and dress up as characters! This is an annual celebration which takes place in over 100 countries around the world! World book day first launched in 1995 and since then has provided a great chance children to enjoy reading. It’s also a great opportunity for parents to celebrate with their children and encourage the benefits of reading books!

A survey led by the National Literacy Trust of more than 9,000 pupils age between eight and 11 found that almost 60% of children were inspired to read more by the celebration of books and reading. World Book Day has resulted in more children buying books, 25% of children asked said the book they “bought” with their World Book Day book token was the first book they had of their own.

World Book Day provides children to create outfits and dress up as their favourite characters, enjoy the day with friends and family. It’s great for parents to get involved and dress up too! Reading gives children the chance to experience different words and run free with their imagination and also a fun way benefit them educationally. Reading should be an important part of a child’s day, and having world book day is the occasion to celebrate the power of story-telling.

“The results from the @Literacy_Trust annual survey shows that reading together has never been so important. From breakfast to bedtime, make sure you find the time to #ShareAStory today. #WorldBookDay”
