EVERYTHING ABOUT FOSTERING

EVERYTHING ABOUT FOSTERING

There’s no doubt that fostering changes young lives and, here at Sunbeam Fostering Agency we work closely with our fantastic foster carers, who provide a safe and loving home to many vulnerable children in the United Kingdom.

Whether you’re one of our current foster carers looking for information or a new carer considering joining our fostering family here Sunbeam Fostering Agency, we hope you find everything you need on this blog.

What is Fostering

Fostering is a way to offer children and young people a safe, nurturing home while their own parents are unable to look after them. How long you care for the child depends on the type of foster care. It can range from one night to many years, or until the child is an adult.

Why do children come to care system?

Children and young people are fostered when it’s not possible for them to stay with their birth family. This could be due to a number of reasons that include illness, relationship breakdown or concerns about their welfare.

Who can become a Foster Carer?

We need foster carers from a wide range of backgrounds, races and religion. This is because all children have their own unique and individual backgrounds and heritage. You do not need to be married, own a house or have children of your own. All you need is to have a spare bedroom and a loving and nurturing environment to give to the child.

Process of becoming Foster carer

So, you’ve made the decision that you’d like to become a foster carer. You think you have the right skills and experience, you have the desire to offer a safe and caring home to a child or young person and, of course, you have a spare room. Now, what happens?

It usually takes about six to eight months from the initial inquiry to become a foster carer. A series of visits and assessments with a social worker precede the final interview with a panel that will decide whether you will be approved to foster.
